Karate - Sport Fighting - Kobudo - Tai Chi

Karate

Based on traditional Okinawan Karate, Gendai Budo offers Karate that uses a zen based training approach with a functional emphasis on defense. Students are challenged in a positive environment to best learn the way, and progress in skills and ability. Personal growth of the mind, spirit, and body are fostered through kata, patterns, and technique work. Gendai Budo continues student growth as they progress by applying resistance in defenses, which is presented to the student with increasing intensity.

Kids Karate

The childrens karate classes at Gendai Budo are for ages 6-12. Classes teach the foundations of Okinawan karate and also include excercises and calisthenics focused more for kids. Compared to the adult classes, additional focus is put upon kata, basics, and discipline. Also, more safety-oriented aspects of martial arts are utilized during classes which helps teach students to use technique, but with an additional level of safety.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Martial arts training for sport requires a specific focus and skillset. Gendai Budo offers training for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and utilzes skills from Muy Thai, wrestling, and grappling. Our Sport Fighting classes provide technical instruction as well as work with resistance and free sparring so technique can be practiced and applied. Beyond technical profiency focus is placed on intense interval training, sport defenses, as well as plenty of live opponent work. MMA classes rotate with regards to which discipline we are focusing on during a certain class.

Kobudo

Kobudo refers to the classical weapons tradition of Okinawan. At Gendai Budo we teach Kobudo independently and as a requirement for our Karate program. In history most martial arts systems require the use of weapons and we reflect that in our curriculum Weapons are taught as an extension of the body as well as to add an extra dimension in our training as students of the martial way.

Kung Fu

Kung Fu is offered by Instructor Rodrigo Trupp who has extensive experience under several renown schools and teachers and over 10 years of teaching experience. He is certified by the US Chan Family Hung Sing Gwoon (Kung Fu and Qi Qong School) School of Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu, known for its powerful combat system.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a low intensity, soft style martial art based in Kung Fu. It gently utilizes a form that practices precise techniques and stances at a slow pace. In tune with deep breathing; it is often referred to as "meditation in motion". Tai Chi boosts energy, stamina, strength, and flexibility and the calming meditative aspects relieve stress. Tai Chi is a great low impact excercise for all ages.
